I have been trying to find an authentic Japanese restaurant for some time now. Regarding authenticity, the Kyo restaurant was more than I could have wished for. The menu does not overwhelm you like in most western Japanese restaurant. It is composed thoughtfully, allowing you to get authentic tastes of beloved classics and essentials of the Japanese culture. The quality of the food, especially the sashimi, is outstanding. Unique sauces and flavor combinations create an authentic experience. The fried dishes were not heavy but rather light, leaving you satisfied instead of stuffed. The amount of high quality sake to choose from is also quite appealing. Whilst this could be overwhelming to western guests, the service staff really provides support to pick one. Seldom did I experience service staff who doesn't seem to spit out what their managers have taught them to say when handling guests. In Kyo, the staff's behavior was authentic as well as friendly and even lovely. Thus, creating a really great atmosphere in combination with great food and drinks overall. I will gladly come back at anytime and recommend this place to any of my friends visiting Amsterdam.

One of the best tasting Japanese food places in all of the Netherlands. The quality of the dish here is that of a top quality food place in Tokyo. And with a very reasonable price too! It would cost around 20-30 euro per person. My recommendation would be the fried eggplants (揚げナス) and the Yakiudon(焼きうどん)
A little Japanese gem in downtown Amsterdam. Super-friendly staff serving a menu of ultra-fresh and tasty dishes - all truly authentic. Interesting sake list also. Absolutely fairly priced. A cozy, small yet corona-compliant outfit, also easy to reach by metro. Highly recommended, will most certainly return and already look forward to it.
Great restaurant! Really authentic and delicious Japanese food, the place itself also has good vibes. Staff was also very welcoming and friendly – will be coming back soon!
I’m vegetarian and Japanese is not the easiest cuisine for me, but this was fantastic, a full vegetarian menu with really nice authentic dishes. Green Tea ice cream desert was amazing. Drinks are great too, high quality sakes and highly recommend the High Ball cocktail after dinner. Super friendly service, nice tips for the food and drinks, everything bi-lingual.
Ordered online and picked up; all was well sorted and tasty. Hope opens soon so can try the exciting drinks list!
Best Japanese restaurant I have ever been - taste like Japan The food is delicious, the service is amazing, waitress are super kind! We had like 10 different small dishes and they were all super tasty I will definitely come back to try all the menu
Without a doubt the best izakaya in town. Affordable, amazing tasting food and really friendly staff. A must go to restaurant!
