I think this is the best place to go for fish lovers in Amsterdam. They have a lot of fish, all looking healthy and happy. The staff are helpful and even took some of my overgrown fish to re-home for me. Although you could get inside with a wheelchair, there are steps inside that unfortunately mean you won't be able to go to the back of the store if in a wheelchair. They sell everything from gravel to full aquariums, great place to get advice and supplies

Really nice people that really have a hearth for there business and the animals they sell. They have a wide variety of fish from sea to tropical to freshwater. (piranhas, clown-fish, Mexican dwarf crayfish, etc.). They also gave me some free samples (food and life food--\u003e Daphnia) to get my culture going. By far the best tropical/fresh/sea aquarium place to get your gear and fish!

Some sad news indeed. Aquarium Holgen on the Jacob van Lennepstraat will be closing its doors for good at the end of November, 2019, due in part to the city council's restrictive parking policy which has already squeezed the neck of so many local businesses, and to ever increasing competition from Internet outlets. With over 90 tanks, the shop specialises in fresh and salt water fish, fish tanks, aquatic plants, live and dried foods and just about everything else an aquarium owner could wish for. Holgen is an household name in Amsterdam. The first Holgen aquarium shop opened in 1895 on Lindengracht. The existing premises launched in 1933. In 1988, the shop was taken over by Gerard and Margriet Krijger, a married couple who had been former employees of the Holgens for 28 years, and who were proud to maintain the historic name over their front door. Together, they established a large clientele throughout Amsterdam, thanks to their expert knowledge, advice and customer service. Visitors to the shop are welcomed by a large glass jar on the counter, full of delicious Dutch licorice, to which they can help themselves. Gerard and Margriet will be sadly missed when they close the doors for the last time.
