This monument stands in tribute to Joan Melchior Kemper, a 18th and 19th century Dutch jurist and statesman. After the restoration of King William I, he was appointed as a member of the Dutch parliament and as chairman of various committees, he played an important role in codifying of Dutch law. This sculpture is located on Korte Voorhout, just outside the Supreme Court of Netherlands. The sculpture is part of a sculptural ensemble that includes other well known Dutch jurists.The statue depicts a seated Joan Melchior Kemper, dressed in legal robes. His head is resting on his left hand and he is deep in thought. The statue is not on the main tourist circuit in Den Haag, so it's only worth seeing if you're already planning on visiting the Supreme Court.
