A castle as you would imagine it! Where a knight used to live, who fought for the Duke of Gelre. A fortress with a moat and a draw bridge. Floris (a TV series about a knight with Rutger Hauer) was set in this castle. Cool! They have a great collection of armor and weaponry, documents and there's personell in authentic clothing standing by to answer questions. Great castle experience! We walked to Arnhem from there but I would recommend taking the bike there from Arnhem. It's really nice. ️️️️

A good place to visit.. please do not keep expectations as high as when visiting Scottish Castles.
This castle isn't overwhelmingly large, but with the aid of the knowledgable staff, you get a glimpse into its past as the stronghold at this strategic point where 3 rivers meet in the countryside. The bridge leads you high over the functioning moat into a hall that features a painting of Doornenburg in a dilapidated state, 10 years after the last mistress of the castle died. It's history is an interesting one, including a less than fortunate incident in WW2. The is armor on display, the bedroom and great hall have arrangements, and nice views are available from every floor. It's worth a visit!
If you are a \Castle\ junkie this one has some incredible history starting c1300. At a closed event we were treated like family. The docents in period costume are well trained and friendly. This is one of the best preserved castles in the NL.
Nice place to visit with family !
