Residentie Orkest The Hague, one of the most innovative orchestras in the Netherlands, is proving more than ever before the importance of symphonic music for a large and wide audience, even in the 21st century. In addition to the symphonic canon, the orchestra also performs new work and cross-over programmes. The orchestra can be heard in the major concert halls both in the Netherlands and abroad. This orchestra, which performs internationally, has throughout its history enjoyed inspirational leadership from a series of chief conductors including Hans Vonk, Yevgeny Svetlanov, Jaap van Zweden and Neeme Järvi. Nicholas Collon is the current chief conductor and artistic adviser, while Richard Egarr is the principal guest conductor. From the 2021/2022 season, Anja Bihlmaier will take over the role of chief conductor and, in addition to Richard Egarr, Jun Märkl will also join us as our principal guest conductor. The Residentie Orkest maintains an emphatic presence in the city, playing open air concerts and providing educational projects at innumerable schools. Collaborations with local and national partners such as the Dutch National Theatre, Festival Classique, Paard, Dutch National Opera & Ballet, the Dutch National Opera Academy and the Saturday Matinee concert series in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw are just as important. The ambitions of the orchestra are spearheaded by its educational policy. Every year, more than 30,000 school pupils get involved in the educational projects, placing the Residentie Orkest at the forefront of musical education in The Hague. The orchestra has developed an educational and outreach programme for all ages, providing a major contribution to social cohesion in the city.
