The young designer is a woman with a passion for designing high-end clothing with a low ecological footprint. The roots of Unravelau began when Laura was deciding her direction of study. Her first choice was Psychology because she wanted to unravel the mysteries of the human mind. At the same time, she was expressing her creativity with painting or through her own dressing style. Not knowing if she would pursue a career in fashion, she decided to follow a preparation course at the HKU University of Arts in Utrecht, during her senior year of high school. During this course, she realized her passion for design and changed her direction of study from Psychology to Fashion Design. Laura says, I soon found out that this was the best choice I ever made and I never felt so free! Much has changed since she graduated in 2016. After receiving a BA of Arts in Fashion design she started Unravelau. This gave the freedom she wanted. However, with that freedom came the responsibility to tell a genuine story. Laura’s experience has taught her, that as an artist, she is responsible for designing sustainable fashion. Although she fears that, as a society, we are not making this change fast enough, she will continue to express her creativity by unraveling the threads of fashion. In doing so, she hopes to contribute to pioneering a new way of designing the clothes we wear.
