New building with studios for rent. The rent is somewhat high, but besides having a room with your own kitchen and bathroom, you also get access to the gym, and can use the wash machines [in app payments needed]. The view from the upper floors is breathtaking. And as another plus, the building is close to the Zernike Campus, Jumbo [supermarket], Action [store where you can buy pretty much anything], flower shop, small harbor, and a pet shop [if you need food and other things to take care of your pet]. *Note that there are polices regarding pets staying at Xior - Zernike. The building is also a 20 min bike ride away from Vismarkt.

Terrible customer service, they charge you triple prices for everything, and they are delaying your deposit for 3 months, and just saying all the time you will get it next soon and they are working hard on it... incompetent team

Now I will give an impression of my time there in Groningen. I have lived for six months at the Zernike location in Groningen during an internship. The Zernike location is far away from the centrum of Groningen, and you need to cycle around 15min to get to the main station. The building is not finished yet, so we often had problems with noise during the day. This would still have been acceptable in my opinion. The main reason why I definetly can not recommend this accomodation is the price though. I paid around 800/month (!) since I didn't find any other student accomodation in Groningen a month before my internship started. Nido or Xior advertise that all bills are included in these 800. However, you need to pay for the usage of the in-house washing mashines and dryers (what I somehow can relate). Besides that, you will need to pay for your water charge, pollution tax and other charges. I paid for the months from september till december around 90. Now that I have finished my internship and moved back to Germany in the end of february, I got another bill from the noordelijk belastingskantoor with another 250 which I will need to pay for the months january and february. It is ridiculous that these charges are not included in the monthly rent and you don't get informed by Xior about these charges. As a student, you can ask for kwijtschelding so that you have to pay less, but only if you have less than a determined saldo on your bank account, which is not applicable for me. That means, I will need to pay the full price. I think it is not well communicated by the Xior team which additional costs there will be once you move to Groningen. I didn't get informed about that at all. After my experience I have to advise anybody to search for something else. You will definetly find a better accomodation in Groningen with a better location and a lower rent.

Way too overpriced apartment with issues which are deal breakers! 1. Extremely overpriced! The rent is 712 which is supposed to be inclusive of bills but not tax and tax per month is almost 80 euros (which is not mentioned anywhere and the tax department will never give you remission as you need to less than 1200 Euros in your account to receive the benefit), making it almost 800 Euros a month, which is a huge rip off especially for students who are not earning! 2. Washing - 6 machines for 900 students is way too little and it's always busy and they make you pay 2.35 for a wash and 2 for a dryer, far too expensive, why not provide 3/4 rounds of washing free per month and charge if someone uses more than that? 3. Poor quality of building - There are already wall paint peeling off, flooring peeling off despite being careful, stains near the kitchen area which won't go away no matter what and hence they will charge you a bomb when you need to vacate. 4. Annoying design - Everything has been glued in, you cannot even move anything, you cannot hang pictures on the wall. 5. Random construction - it's a brand new building and there is construction taking place, which starts at 8am with loud drilling sounds which is super annoying and the fact that it's going to take 10 weeks is annoying. Even though they compensated for it, it went on for months and was super annoying! 6. Fire alarms - They used to go off every day for 4 months, but they've now been fixed and there have been no false alarms since then. 7. Internet - The Internet had a lot of issues in August/September, Ask4 seem to have been fixed the issue after multiple complaints but no compensation has been paid for the same. Located too far away from the center and hence a lot of food deliveries cost a lot or they just don't deliver.

We are kind of disappointed by Nido Groningen when it comes to handling of contract. When we signed the contract (6 months short stay cos there was no long stay available thus we were 'forced' to pick short stay) we have not and never been informed that after a short stay of 6 months the contract can't be extended. Not even a word about it. As a matter of fact, one of their staff even told us it was possible to extend once the contract has finished.... Furthermore, Nido Groningen is telling us that a Dutch law prevents them from renewing / extending the contract ... Thus I made a few calls to Gemeente Groningen and Nido Utrecht which couldn't give me a firm and conclusive answer. My question is is there really a Dutch law that prohibits Nido Groningen to extend an existing contract ?!

My room is great but please add ventilation or fans to the rooms because the heat is unbelievable (Or at least allow fully opening the windows which is now prohibited) UPDATE: My God... fire alarms are here every single day! Every. Single. Day. I wish I was kidding.

Warning, possibility the worst value accomodation in town. Want a tiny studio which costs an arm and a leg, overlooking a highway that is a sauna in summer? Then this is the place for you. Instead be smart and find something on the private market. I found a wonderful historic apartment for cheaper there and live there to this day.
