CloudCuddle B.V.

We are Lotte Leufkens (Mechanical Engineering) and Francesca Lucas (Industrial Design Engineering). We are all students at the TU Delft and started this project during our minor, Biomedical Engineering. The father of a chronically ill child asked us to design a new transportable bed protection, as his current product did not meet his wishes. This is where the CloudCuddle began. The CloudCuddle is designed for children who need protection from falling out of bed or hurting themselves on their surroundings. There are plenty of non-transportable solutions for this, but very few transportable ones. So we designed the CloudCuddle, which is inflatable therefore light and easy to transport. And it is very easy to set up! This is a real improvement on the current solutions (which are heavy, child unfriendly and take up a lot of space). Besides all the practicalities our design is very child friendly due to improved sight from the bed, an open look, a lot of colour options and the avoidance of hard construction elements. Concerning the size of the product: it is fitted to a standard adult single bed. This way you can easily use it on a hotel bed, or on the guest bed of the child's grandparents. With some little changes the possibilities of this design are even bigger. For example, there could be a version with an integrated mattress to let (healthy) children sleep safely in a tent, or play outside. Hospitals could also benefit from this design, especially children departments. They would look a lot more cheerful with all these coloured beds! Past June 2017 the CloudCuddle is officially on the market. In the first quarter of 2018 product development will begin for the CloudCuddle for disabled adults and elderly.
