This is a neolith structure (hunebed) a short bicycle ride from Diever. It is a nice spot for a picnic or some relaxing quiet time. The hunebed was built several thousand years ago from large rocks that were transported from Scandinavia by glaciers during the last ice age. After the glaciers melted the locals used the leftover stones to build grave memorials.

There are more than 50 megaliths in Drenthe, the remains of tombs dating from the Neolithic era: Information about this period, with archaeological finds, is displayed in the museum at Borger. Of the 54 megaliths in Holland, 52 are in Drenthe and the remaining two are in Groningen. These megaliths, or hunnebedden, are the remains of ancient tombs built of boulders some 5,000 years ago by the Neolithic Beaker Folk. What can be seen today are only the frameworks of the tombs, Which were all hidden underneath sandhills. It is still not known whether these were common graves or the tombs of prominent individuals. The largest megalith in Holland, measures 22,5 m (74 ft), Has 9 top stones and 26 upright stones. Excavations were carried out in Borger in 1685, but none of the finds has been preserved. Nice big hunebed in a quiet location but walking distance from Diever. Stones are very picturesque and climbable for kids.
