A nice museum with a lot exhibits, clean and neat. It’s a good place for adults and junior kids who are interested in Friesland sailing history, but a little bit boring for young kids.

Lots to see, but lacking the storytelling or interactivity that other museums in the area offer. We were much more pleasantly surprised by the Planetarium in Franeker.
Interesting place with many artefacts, pictures and subjects. Half of the museum is dedicated to naval history and the other half to life of the people in Friesland (skating, architecture, fashion). Children appreciated the special room for kids, how the pulleys work or how difficult is to pull a ship. Some drawings are available. And we ended up with gratis cup of coffee / tea.
Really loved it. Intimate and smart Museum. Very important part of Dutch and Frisian history.
Amazingly complete overview of Frisian boats, shipping industry, shipping history, fisheries, etc. Also (of course) ice skating, life in early 20th century, and more. I spent two hours there, and managed to see about half.
