The information sign says that this Sherman joined in on the fighting for Woensdrecht, but that's incorrect. This Sherman M4A1 E9 is a postwar Dutch Sherman that was placed on a target range and was salvaged and restored in the 70's. The E9 stands for the wide Vertical Volute Spring System (VVSS) this tank had, and it was fitted to stop the normal VVSS suspension from sinking into the ground. The E9 or easy 9 was a second attempt after the E8 or easy 8 suspension to make the Sherman preform better on muddy terrain.
