Marken a former fisherman village in Waterland, a relic of the traditional native culture that was destined to disappear as they started to building dike separating the sea from the dam and after 50 years, the sea water turned into sweet water lake and the fish vanished so are the fishermen however the houses on stilts remains a tourist attraction. The canals running in the lush green streets makes the village all the more charming.
