Westbatterij (Vesting Muiden), Zuiderzeedijk

Good for kids
It was a pretty little town. I rode from Amsterdam just to have a ride to somewhere else. I didn't stop for long. There was a small selection of bars/restaurants but all looked nice

Lovely view of the harbour entrance of muiden. The battery itself is closed. Nice little beach aside.
This is a castle surrounded 4 sides by water. Peacefull, clean and quiet.
Very nice castle, well restored. The guide tour is worth it, with useful informations about the life in the 17th century. The gardens around the castle are nice too, with a good view on the sea. I recommand the visit !
The West Battery’s function was to support Muiderslot castle (reinforced with five bastions) in the defence of the estuary of the river Vecht with its sea sluices. The tower fort was built in 1852 to strengthen a battery built in 1799. The sluices date back to 1672 and were needed, amongst others things, to control the inundation (flooding) of the Old and New Dutch Waterline by the river Vecht.
