Discovered Aan Tafel by accident. A day trip to the Airborne Museum in Arnhem ended up with the GPS taking us towards Germany. After the penny dropped and we wrested control from the nice lady in the dashboard we decided to find a restaurant on the way back to Amsterdam. More questionable use of technology saw Google maps take us to Utrecht and a mythical steak restaurant. A couple of incidents involving driving on cycle lanes and impersonation of a tram resulted in us abandoning our search for the allusive steak restaurant and taking the first car park we could find. At this point we were ready to eat at the first greasy spoon we came across. Instead we found Aan Tafel. Why they had a table for four available at 7.30pm on a Thursday is beyond me. Because what ensued over the next couple of hours was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I have ever had. No menu as such. Just a wonderfully polite and helpful young lady who explained that Aan Tefal uses the available fresh and local ingredients to craft a dining experience. We were asked about particular dislikes and allergies then invited to decide whether we would like anywhere from one to five dishes. Matching wines were also offered. I will not go into details but the food we were served was superb. Imaginative but not ostentatious dishes with beautifully matched flavours and textures. No menus means no stress and no doubt next time the ever changing menu will be equally fantastic. So next time you accidentally try and invade Germany stop by Utrecht and see if Aan Tafel has a table. You will not be disappointed.

Afgelopen vrijdag 29 juni jl. een heerlijke avond beleefd met bedrijfsuitje. Uit eten bij restaurant “Aan tafel”. Wat een mooie restaurant met zeer professioneel en gastvrije bediening en last but zeker not least heerlijk eten en drinken van hoge kwaliteit. Zeker een aanrader. Voor mijn collega’s en mijzelf is dit een restaurant die we zowel met werk als prive vaker zullen bezoeken.
Leuke opzet om te kiezen voor een aantal gangen. En dan kan je ook nog de keuze maken tussen vis, vlees of vegetarisch. We kregen stuk voor stuk heerlijke gerechten voorgeschoteld. Geen al te grote porties en gemaakt van verse producten. Gerechten waar je zelf niet zo snel voor zou kiezen en verrassende combinaties van ingrediënten. Heerlijk gegeten voor een redelijke prijs.
Heerlijk gegeten en super rielekst als je geen kaart hebt. Dan kan je je op je gezelschap focussen ipv de kaart.
