Stay here only if you have absolutely no alternative. The check-in took a lot of time and costs were unclear. Service given at the reception was good but the cleanliness of the building, toilets and room very poor. Opening times of reception are impractical. This place needs a make-over, I would not come back. The friendly cats are a plus.

Watch out! My credit was charged with more than 500 for a reservation that I cancelled already months ago. Asking the hostel staff on the phone if they could give me back my money they forwarded me to their manager who has no phone-number and never answered my e-mail! A friend of mine was treated similarly and on first sight I found at least one review which tells a similar story. edit: I did cancel in due time following the policies and was still charged. Additionally you deleted my post on your facebook-page and still didn't reply any of my e-mails and didn't call me back.
I had an amazing 3 days here... the price/quality is fine, you get what you pay for. I travel a lot and in total I lived for more then 2 years in hostels all over the world... The Stone hostel is the most authentic en genuine hostel where I have ever been. I will come back after they renovated the place! Cheers! and have fun!
Unfriendly staff, random people walking in at night who were not part of the room. Me and 3 girls did not feel safe there and I would not recommend going. We did not even stay one night. Do not go
We had two friends visiting and we asked them to go to an hotel because of the pandemic. I sincerely regret not taking them in my house. We saw the place and I am ashamed for the city of Utrecht. This place is an embarrassment. The room they were given was dirty, small and outdated. It was advertised on Booking as "room with bathroom" but the bathroom was on a different floor, accessible through a steep grossly carpeted staircase, and it was not private at all: the door was left open and obviously access was shared with the entire floor. Doors were slamming all night long! Of course they put a note on the bathroom door to remind people that the bathroom was dedicated to our room, but it didn't work and I don't understand why they could not simply provide keys. This should be especially important during a pandemic! In the room they had a small sinkwith rusty pipes, gross laminate floor and an old fashion tv screen that looked like like a computer monitor with a cathode ray tube. The "double" was advertised as an 11 square meters with 3 sleeping places: queen size bed below and single on the top of a bunk bed. At best it was a total of 8-9 square meters! The two of them couldn't move. I can't imagine how 3 people could share such a small space. All in all I blame the ad on Booking for such place to be in business: it was very misleading! The pictures were taken years ago, is the only explanation I can find. Also, the total price was presented in such a way that you would believe taxes and all other costs were included, but instead they were asked for 2 EUR per towel, VAT, Tourist tax, and ended up paying more than 90 EUR for that horrible room, instead on the envisioned 65. For a similar price in Utrecht you can get an actual hotel room. Please, go anywhere else but here. Highly recommended not to go to this hostel. I am hoping this review is an incentive for the owners to refresh the establishment.

They literally stole 10 from me (mistake?) and ignore my request. The staff (who was amazing apart from one awful girl you'd easily recognize if you ever had to deal with this hotel) tells me to contact the boss. I've been calling, emailing many email addresses, I just keep being ignored. Why would I rate the rest of the experience, just don't stay there they might simply steal your money.
Fraud. Stay was cancelled according to regulations on booking.com. Money was still charged months later under a different name (ACP*S Hotel), making it impossible to legally relate it to the Stone Hotel (I only found out because the same happened to friends). Employee at the desk won't give out the manager's number, only his E-mail. After saying he will check the reservation, he never replied again. Will file charges. Also, the place smells.
