Zangstudio Roel Bakkum geeft zangles en stemtraining in Amsterdam sinds 2011. Negen jaar geleden begon Roel met het geven van zangles in een kleine kamer aan huis in Amsterdam. Inmiddels zijn we uitgegroeid tot een studio waar 4 coaches 7 dagen per week vele studenten uit binnen en buitenland leren zingen, spreken en presenteren. ONZE MISSIE: ONTDEK DE KRACHT VAN TECHNIEK EN DE POWER VAN INTERPRETATIE. De kracht van techniek begint voor ons bij begrip en bewustzijn over hoe je lichaam werkt als je zingt of spreekt. Hoewel in grote lijnen bij iedereen gelijk: gedragspatronen, gewoontes, gevolgde trainingen en vele andere factoren maken dat de manier waarop je de stem traint verschilt van persoon tot persoon. Om daadwerklijk de kracht van techniek te ervaren is het volgens ons noodzakelijk om voor elke student een training op maat te maken. \"One size fits all\" werkt niet in een zangles / stemtraining. Techniek is niet het enige wat je leert in een les. Voor ons is interpretatie en performance net zo belangrijk. Wat is je verhaal, en waarom vertel je het? Je techniek helpt je om je interpretatie en performance kracht bij te zetten en interessant te maken. Het geeft je bewegingsvrijheid om je verhaal te vertellen op jouw manier!

I approached Roel to understand how I can use by voice better and create a nicer sound (I'm not a professional - this was just something I wanted to do for me). Roel coached me through some great techniques and exercises; to warm up, develop and improve my vocals, not just 'copy me' style, but by explaining how my muscles and organs work, and how small changes to technique make a difference to what comes out. I also joined some of his small group workshops. I didn't expect this to be as useful (I usually prefer 1:1 as I'm not a 'performing artist') but these were really good! Hearing other people try the same techniques as you... getting different feedback... applying it... and hearing the difference... that gave me an ever broader understanding, which then helped my 1:1 sessions. Roel is fab - fun, upbeat, and he certainly knows his stuff! I went in thinking I just wanted to be able to sing a bit better, and I came out singing with energy, passion and pride. Who knew musical theatre could be so much fun! 5, 6, 7, 8... :)

I have been taking Dutch accent lessons from Anne. The lessons are well-structured, minimal (love that!!) and therefore highly effective. They do a great job at introducing changes in the accent by explaining the techniques around using mouth, lips tongue etc. in an easy to understand way. The overall experience can be summed up as learning in a fun and comfortable way while also gaining confidence to speak with the fellow Dutch countrymen with a flair. Highly recommended :)

I've been taking singing classes with Roel for more then 1 year now. First of all the studio is very nice. It's near central station and it's a big studio with a piano in the middle. Roel is very enthousiastic and involved with his students. He adjusts the class to the wants and needs of the student. For example, I've been auditioning at dance/ musical academies during the past few months. We've been working towards these auditions for a while and and Roel really prepared me for it and made me feel more confident. Besides all this he has great knowledge of the voice and always finds ways to make you understand the techniques. I would highly recommend taking Roel his classes. You will learn A LOT!
